AI-powered scribe technology is helping urgent care teams fundamentally improve workflow efficiency, according to Andrea Giamalva, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Experity Health, in an interview with Healthcare IT News. Exclusive Experity analysis of more than 400,000 patient visits across 450 urgent care centers since October 2025 demonstrates that urgent cares using an AI scribe reduced documentation time by about 40%. The benefit is direct improvement in throughput: 78.6% of AI-supported visits were closed within 15 minutes, compared to 73.0% without AI. Giamalva says that AI scribes deliver an “ambient, intelligent process,” which also allows clinicians to remain engaged with their patients rather than focusing on typing out notes. “During the visit, natural language interactions would not only document the encounter but also trigger orders, generate patient instructions, and produce necessary documentation in real time,” she says in the interview.
Bottom line benefit: With increased throughput, urgent cares can expect fewer walkouts, faster chart closure, and more complete coding, according to Giamalva. She notes that the gains from AI scribes can help unlock capacity for at least 3 additional patients per day, which could add up to as much as $900 in additional daily revenue. “Because this improvement is driven by more accurate documentation—not changes in care delivery—it represents a sustainable and compliant revenue gain,” she says.
