Prisma Health has announced plans to acquire 36 urgent care rooftops in South Carolina from Novant Health, which until about a year ago were branded as Doctors Care clinics. After the transaction, expected to close November 1, 2026, the centers will operate under the Prisma Health Urgent Care name. Virtual and walk-in care will continue, including respiratory testing, x-rays, and laboratory services, according to the announcement. Echoing the national trend of hospital-owned urgent cares, the newly acquired rooftops will serve as a front door for patients who will also have access to Prisma Health’s network of primary, specialty, and hospital-based care. Most centers are expected to remain at their current locations, although some may be consolidated with nearby centers. Prisma Health says it plans to retain the approximately 500 urgent care employees.
Growth mode: The nonprofit Prisma will have more than 60 total urgent care locations in its network once the acquisition closes. It is also growing its existing footprint of urgent care locations, most recently adding a new rooftop in West Ashley, South Carolina, in August. Prisma currently operates 19 acute and specialty hospitals and serves more than 1.6 million patients in South Carolina and Tennessee.
