Diagnosis: The x-ray reveals a distal femoral fracture. In 50% to 80% of cases, femoral fractures in children younger than age 2 are a result of abuse. A splint and follow up with an orthopedist are appropriate for this patient. Child Protective Services also should be notified for all cases like this one.
