In Wisconsin, health officials have confirmed several new measles cases, raising the state’s outbreak total to 24 as of September 2, 2025, with 2 people hospitalized (8.3%). All of the cases are in unvaccinated people, but no deaths have been confirmed. More than half of cases are among those aged 5-17 years; 33.3% are in those over age 18; and 12.5% are in those under age 5. Officials say the ongoing investigation indicates that measles is spreading locally in the state. Meanwhile in central Ohio, health officials have identified 3 confirmed measles cases in children, all unvaccinated. Elsewhere around the country, health officials announced recently that the West Texas measles outbreak, the nation’s largest in 30 years, is now over after no new cases had been reported in 42 days.

National totals: Across the United States, as of September 2, 2025, there have been a total of 1,431 confirmed measles cases reported in 42 states with 3 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Twelve percent of cases have resulted in hospitalization, and 92% of cases are among the unvaccinated. This year marks the highest outbreak of measles cases since 1992 (2,126).
