Every night at 7 pm in some cities, residents come out on their front stoops or hang out their windows to cheer, clap, and bang pots and pans together in a show of appreciation for frontline healthcare workers and first responders. Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care may be going them one better by giving those workers priority access to care at 52 urgent care centers in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County, NY during the pandemic. The company has agreements with certain police, fire, emergency medical, and healthcare organizations in those areas that will facilitate faster care while urgent care centers are deviating from their usual walk-in model in favor of asking patients to call ahead to schedule time with a clinician. Northwell Health-GoHealth set up a dedicated phone line for the at-risk, overburdened workers to call and book appointments for any services the urgent care centers offer (including COVID-19 tests). In doing so, the company is offering a valuable, useful service to the most vulnerable people caring for their communities; encourages the agencies they work with to send those patients their way; and demonstrates to the communities in which they operate that they’re civic-minded.
