The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is making a game plan for this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup by collecting a list of urgent care centers and other provider sites to help visitors find needed care while experiencing the international soccer events. It’s part of the state’s overall healthcare system readiness strategy tied to the World Cup. Additional resources for clinicians include disease fact sheets as well as disease reporting, isolation, and quarantine protocols for public health. What’s interesting is that the state’s healthcare interactive dashboard is set up to provide capacity data for emergency care to help visitors choose hospital facilities with shorter wait times. Beyond routine illness and injury, leaders are also planning at a high level for scenarios such as mass casualty events, foodborne illness, and weather-related health issues.

Where to cheer: More than a dozen cities are hosting the World Cup matches from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The spectacle is expected to attract as many as 5 million international visitors to the United States with a 50/50 split of international and domestic fans in attendance at the soccer games. Nearby urgent cares should at least be aware of the surge of out-of-town visitors in each host city and consider potential staffing needs.
