Parents and urgent care providers probably have any number of things in common, but one that would top the list is wanting to see children grown up healthy and fit. MedSpring Urgent Care in Austin, TX hit on a great way to support that mutual objective while also getting its name out to the community in a very positive light when it donated $17,500 to a local running club whose mission is to help children live a healthier lifestyle through running. MedSpring picked a nationally renowned partner in Marathon Kids, as the organization runs one of the only evidence-based running/walking programs for children in the United States. Children taking part in the program run or walk at their own pace for the equivalent mileage of up to four marathons (104.8 miles) over the course of the running club season. Marathon Kids provides the training, rewards, tools, and resources to help. The funds donated by MedSpring will help them inspire more kids in diverse communities. MedSpring encouraged media attention by planning a ceremony for the formal donation, complete with an oversized check that was perfect for publishing in the local newspaper and on area websites and blogs. Coverage included mention that MedSpring is open to provide care to children and adults alike 7 days a week from 8 am–8 pm, including most holidays. All healthcare facilities exist to provide care to the communities in which they’re located, of course, but going the extra mile (or the extra 104.8 miles, figuratively speaking) can help demonstrate that it’s more than just a good business; it can be a way of doing good.
