The cumulative influenza-associated hospitalization rate for the 2024–2025 season was the highest since 2010–2011, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which classified the season overall as “high severity.” Hospital admissions from October 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025, reached 127.1 per 100,000 population and were highest among Americans aged 75 years and older (598.8). Across age groups, hospitalization rates during last season were 1.8 to 2.8 times higher than median historical rates during the period beginning with the 2010–2011 season, according to CDC. Similar to past seasons, most patients hospitalized with flu-related illness during the season (89.1%) had 1 or more underlying medical conditions. 

Three-day stay: Among hospitalized patients, 32.4% had received a flu vaccine, 39.0% had not, and 28.5% had unknown vaccine status. The median length of stay was 3 days, and 84.8% of such patients received antiviral treatment.
