The diagnosis is a true Jones fracture involving the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction of the fifth metatarsal, which should not be confused with the more proximal avulsion fracture involving only the tuberosity (Figure 2).

Jones fractures are managed either operatively or with a non-weight-bearing (NWB) cast for 6 to 8 weeks. Therefore, immobilization, a NWB cast, and orthopedic follow-up are indicated for this patient. For simple avulsion fractures of the proximal tuberosity, usual management is a bulky dressing, postoperative show, and weight bearing as tolerated.
