The x-ray reveals a foreign body in the pharynx. Immediate follow up with an ear, nose and throat specialist for removal of the foreign body is appropriate for this patient. If the foreign body were not visible on the x-ray but the index of suspicion was high, a follow-up CT scan would be necessary because of the possibility that the object was obscured by overlapping soft tissue.
