As more rural hospitals strategize to stretch their budgets, a group of 19 critical-access hospitals across Nebraska is launching the Nebraska High Value Network (NHVN). By combining efforts, the network members—which serve about 300,000 patients collectively—will collaborate on clinical and business efforts to gain economies of scale. The network is in discussions with other rural hospitals in Nebraska and expects to expand its reach, according to a press release. While the hospital entities will remain independent, clinical leaders from each member organization are developing a new clinically integrated network (CIN) platform with a common set of quality measures and clinical data-sharing capabilities. 

Rural landscape: Financial pressure remains the top concern for providers in rural communities with many looking for better ways to demonstrate their value propositions to insurers to gain improved reimbursement. And as more rural hospitals shut down, urgent care is often the welcome new player in the market. In fact, rural areas are the fastest-growing segment among urgent cares.
