Medical City Healthcare, a subsidiary of HCA Healthcare, this week acquired 13 CommunityMed urgent care centers that will become part of its CareNow Urgent Care network, according to a press release. Currently operating 22 hospitals as well as a number of freestanding emergency departments and ambulatory surgery centers in northern Texas, Medical City Healthcare will now have more than 95 CareNow branded sites across the state—including 2 located in Walmart stores. The deal also expands HCA Healthcare’s urgent care presence to more than 340 locations with 4.2 million patient visits annually, according to the release. HCA Healthcare generated approximately $75.6 billion in annual revenue in 2025, making it one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States with at least 190 hospitals and 2,400 ambulatory care sites across 20 states and the United Kingdom.
Within the urgent care landscape: HCA historically ranks in a top spot in the Urgent Care Top 100 by JUCM. Last year, it was in the number 2 position but has grown its number of urgent care locations since. Watch for the updated 2026 Urgent Care Top 100 list this summer from JUCM.
